Calendar Research

Research also collecting examples of calendars that used colour and format in innovative ways and had that playfulness my design hoped to achieve. Calendars that used coloured shapes and collage reflected an element of playfulness, which adopted to my design could achieve one of the criteria of the G.F Smith brief, being to evoke inspiration.

Winners from previous years:

It was noticed that winners of the G.F Smith Calendar brief in previous years used block colour for each month. This gave there designs a strong image as it allowed each colour stand out and contrast one another.  They also reflected the clean cut and sophisticated identity of G.F Smith. One winner used envelopes as there format which directly touches on the personal aspect G.F Smith paper holds. G.F Smith paper is used for many purposes,  personal use being one that is very popular.

Important qualities for the calendar.

-       To show the physical and tactile quality of paper
-       To show the power and beauty of colour
-       To challenge the idea of what paper is
-       To show the possibility and potential of paper.
-       To evoke inspiration
-       To create an appreciation to the material
-       To bring the seasons to life
-       To communicate the passage of a year in a unique and inspiring way
-       Using colour to connect to the seasons

Things to consider
-       G.F Smith is a global company and therefore seasons will differ in varying countries, however the seasons can still reflect a local interpretation

Where will this be used?
-       Placed on a wall (physical)
-       Appear on a laptop screen (Digital)
