Using Emojis - Being Global

Using Emojis

'BonAppetite' aims to be used worldwide not just in UK student areas, as it has the intention to reduce as much food waste as possible. Therefore the use of emojis is suitable as a universal language. Although users wont be exchanging between cultures as the App works within a small community, in more diverse communities and in general it supports 'BonAppetites' motive of working together as one.
It was important to have imagery alongside text in the app. When users uploaded their food, an initial idea was to add a camera feature in and have them upload a picture alongside other information. This idea was rejected as the idea of using emojis seemed much stronger. Emojis would give a clear recognisable identification of the food, where as photos taken by the users could risk the App looking unattractive and unappetising
With a limited food emoji pallet for the App to work - more food emojis would have to be commissioned.
