Design Principles - Jo Blaker - Sketchbook Advice - Colour & Form

·      I like how she uses a range of different mediums and tools to document her observations.
·      Using brown paper, or sticking in different paper to work on inside her sketchbook
·      Using a red biro changes the feel of the work
·      There’s a difference between looking, observing and noticing
·      Document things that grab your attention in everyday life e.g. colour combinations, layout ect.
·      Do it in a way that suits you such as photography, markings, collecting images
·      Combine artists work with my own for inspiration, try mixing colours rather than just finding them
·      Words can also be an observation, it doesn’t always have to be drawing
·      Layer paper, make it 3-D or textured
·      Don’t restrict yourself, keep your work free. If it’s hard to draw something then repeatedly draw it!
