INDESIGN

INDESIGN
For the making of my upcoming book I attend an InDesign work shop. Prior to this I have only used InDesign a couple of time this allowed me to become more comfortable with the soft wear.  I was shown all the instruction I need for creating my own layout when it comes to create my own book.  I created a series of notes on key short cuts, how to create the document, how to with text and images and how to save the file to be sent to print.

Bleed – setting up new document lay out   –  help you with cutting making sure no white edges – standard – 3mm

Slug – help when setting up new documents – printer marks – 2cm – bigger then bleed- help with folds – bleed is more important

Facing pages – presented as it will be printed – used for making books setting up document – no facing pages – or facing in

How to make changes when setting up – file menu – document set up – change number of changes etc.  initial set up

Pages menu – add new page – can delete page quickly – over view of the whole document – navigate two and from pages – double click page and it come up

Work with margin and column – have to select the pages you want to change
-Lay out / Margin and columns

Reader spread – how it will look when printed

Printer spread – how they need to make a book

kerning allows you to change the space between two carrots  - come up when text – change the way it is viewed

tracking below kerning – whole section of text – increases or decreasing lay out of text selected

  Caretor
P – paragraph your working on

Small red at the bottom
Cant fell the space will text – deal with this – text frame larger – click on the bottom – double click will create a frame with the extra text – this can be achieved over multiple pages

If on selection toll double click back to text

I M A G E S
Photoshop
Resolution 300 ppi – lower quality
Colour mode – CMYK or grey scale
Prepare the images in the actual size of the layout
Save the file in format – tif – Photoshop files –  best quality / avoided – don’t use jpeg files – because it small files due to this loose image quality

Image on to page-  image and place
Create a frame in advance – tool – rectangle tool- you can crop by using this

Two cericale on images – content grabber – contact of the image moving the image with in the frame

Shift – resize image – be careful of enlarge image lower resection- wont print as well as hoped

Images look pixilated –
When u place the image on – low resolution version of image – arrangement of text and image on your page  - changes in the printing process

SAVING
File management
Save in same folder as all the image u are working on
InDesign project folder
Otherwise image won’t be good quality
Working with group of files
When open will tell you if there is a issue – little red ? on the image – low result ion when printing

Links – by pages – will tell you

I attend a second InDesign workshop to help me laying out my book. I took note to look back at when it comes to create my book independently.
