Magazine research

The publication is based on music culture and information about specific DJ's and music festival projects. Research begun looking at three magazines of that genre; NME, Fader and Mixmag. These three explore everything around the emerging and existing industry of music.

The Fader (FADER), is a modern New York City based publication which launched in 1999, also covering music and culture, but steering towards style and lifestyle a little more than Mixmag and NME. With big names on the cover such as Drake, Skepta, and Frank Ocean. The lifestyle aspect of the magazine is not what I can compare to but the strong features and links to the music industry is.

NME, New Musical Express is a British music journalism magazine which has been running since 1952, until recently in 2015, it is given out for free to specific markets of relevance and interest such as mens and womenswear shops Topman and Topshop, since its sale numbers began to decline. In 1996, NME built its digital platform which reaches nearly 4 million people every week. This is an unrealistic target reach but to review, feature and feed news is something I am able to do.

Mixmag is a British magazine with a digital forum and website focussed on electronic dance music and worldwide clubbing scene. It is published in London and was first published in 1982. Mixmag is more of a focussed genre for those who are into the music culture but more specifically the electronic music scene. It gives out reviews of club nights, shins a limelight on up and coming DJ's and large names, offering readers a review of new music and live acts.
